Rolling Strikes and Rolling Eyes Pt. 2

Let me tell you about the fun times my friends and I had at Aj's grandma's house every Saturday night after bowling. Aj's grandma cooked amazing Filipino food for us every night and made us breakfast every morning. We loved eating together and eating in general. We laughed a lot and of course, had a great time. From the beginning, a lot of my best moments were spent there with my friends. At this point, Ryan hasn’t joined the party yet because he’s a hard-working guy and works for HOURS. We would ask him to hang out even though we would get the same answer, we would still want him there.

In this series, I am only going to name-drop Aj, Bryce, and Ryan. I want to name-drop some people but I can’t and it is probably for the best. If you know, you know.

Even though we had some mishaps, we were good at bowling, and other people in our league wanted to hang out with us. But we liked keeping our group small because we were close friends. When we did hang out with certain people some things didn't go as planned, like when I accidentally clogged the toilet and his grandma didn’t have a plunger so Aj had to go to Walmart in the middle of the night to buy one. This other time, I let someone drive Aj’s car when we went to get McDonald’s. The car overheated on the way back to his house so we couldn’t use it the next day and had to use his dad’s car instead. Come to think of it, am I the problem? nah. Some might call that irresponsible of me, but I see it as a laughing matter now. Amiright Aj? lmao

Here’s another funny story: Bryce always wanted to play games like hide-and-seek or tag at the park near Aj's grandma’s house, but only at night. We were never too excited about his idea. And when I say never, I mean NEVER. Bryce loved the night despite his sudden urge to knock out. Every Saturday night, he'd suggest going to the park at 9 pm. But Aj and I weren't about that, we just wanted to hang out in the house where it’s safe. The park was kind of sketchy at night but the boys always made me feel safe regardless.

"We'd rather not, Bryce" Aj would say, trying not to laugh.

I'd agree, "Yeah, then we gonna get all sweaty and have to shower again"

But Bryce was determined. He thought it would be fun having me chase him in the dark in my volcom slippers.

"Why do you hate me!?" Bryce would say, trying to convince us.

Sometimes, we'd agree, knowing we can’t convince him otherwise. We also knew that if we didn’t he would go straight to sleep and we won’t hear a word from him till the morning. So, we'd head to the park at night, feeling a mix of excitement and complaining. Bryce would lead the way all eager and shit. We would end up having a lot of fun but still, we were sweaty and dirty by 10 pm. Despite our doubts, Bryce's nighttime games brought us closer as friends and made more memories of those times we spent in Makakilo.

So, here's to Bryce, the brave and sleepy leader of our nighttime adventures, and to the laughs and excitement we shared in the dark. Throughout all the ups and downs, our friendship stayed strong. Aj's grandma's house was like a safe place for us, where we could have fun and be ourselves.
